We use toughened glass
The first line of defense for Slimline showcases is the cabinet itself. All showcases in the standard range use toughened glass for all panels, doors and glass shelves. Therefore, trying to gain access by breaking the glass is not a subtle option. This focuses the security system on preventing the doors from being opened or detecting that someone unauthorised is trying to open the door.
Prevention – fit a better lock
Abloy locks offer a higher level of security. The locks are hard to tamper with and keys are only available from Abloy. As with most locks, security goes out the window if the salesman forgets to push in the lock after he has closed the door.

Detection – fit an electronic alarm
Slimline showcases can be fitted with an electronic alarm system. It will warn you with a loud and penetrating sound when someone unauthorised starts to open a door of the showcase. The switches for this system are completely hidden from view, there are no ugly boxes to detract from your display. A flashing red LED indicates that the system is armed. To turn off (disarm) the alarm temporarily, we offer the following options:
Options for disarming the electronic alarm
-
Key switch - Our standard solution is to provide an electronic keyswitch, which means you have to carry two separate keys, one for the door lock and one for the key switch. Of course, a keyswitch is vulnerable to tampering as well. Our standard keyswitch offers only a moderate level of extra security but still poses a second hurdle to the burglar. If a higher level of security is required, a Kaba High Security key switch can be fitted
-
Remote unlocking - Alternatively, we can provide a secure remote control option. With this, the alarm system can be disarmed from just about anywhere in the store. There is no need for a key switch to be fitted in the showcase. You will be supplied with two keyfobs, one of which can be kept at a central location in the store to give you greater control over store security. The remote control option is as secure as your car door’s remote control system.
How the alarm system operates
When the power is switched on, the alarm system starts up automatically.
With the keyfob, the system can be disarmed from a distance and will stay disarmed for about 30 seconds. As long as the door is open, the alarm will stay silent. When the door(s) are closed again, the alarm will immediately reset itself. With sliding doors, both doors must be closed for this to happen. As long as the system is disarmed, the LED is off.
With a key switch installation, the key has to be rotated once and can then be removed. This initiates the 30 second delay during which time the door can be opened.
Options for remote control of multiple showcase installations
-
Single keyfob opens all showcases - The remote control receiver can ‘learn’ which keyfob to respond to. This makes it possible to train all showcases to respond to one centrally held keyfob. The drawback of this arrangement is that all cases are vulnerable during the 30 second period they are disarmed. It should be remembered though that a would-be thief still has to get past the showcase lock.
-
Individual keyfobs for each showcase - The simplest way to deal with multiple showcases and individual control of each showcase is to hold one of each keyfob at a central location.
-
Multiple remote control station -
creative
displays can combine up to five keyfobs in one control box so you can allocate a coloured button to each showcase. This way only one cabinet at a time is disarmed and it avoids a keyfob being lost or mislaid.

When the power fails
In a key switch installation, where the alarm system is connected to a 24 hour supply, a 9 V standby battery can be plugged into the alarm board. During a power cut, this battery will keep the system alive.
For a remote control installation, a standby battery can be fitted to the remote receiver. After a lengthy powercut, it is advisable to replace this battery.
